“8.02.2019, U.S. – I feel it’s very important that we made a strong statement about the sovereignty of Georgia and about the problem that we all have over the frozen conflicts that Russia has deployed in Abkhazia and South Ossetia. We cannot accept it. We must continue fight against it in partnership with Georgia in every way we can” - US Congressman Francis Rooney is quoted as saying after his meeting with the Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani.
According to the Congressman, the U.S. appreciates the progress the nation of Georgia has made since becoming independent. The Resolution condemning the decision by the Syrian Arab Republic to recognize the territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia as independent of Georgia provides a clear proof that the United States unequivocally supports Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
This Resolution heightens awareness of Georgia’s plight and the threats Russia presents to Georgia. So when things come to the need to vote, this lays the background for people to understand why they should consider voting for the pro-Georgia-U.S relationship” - Francis Rooney said.
